Common Causes of Seal Failure

Seal leakage can generally be attributed to four types of problems:structural failure,end face abnormalities,compensation component failures,and defects in other sealing points.Structural failure may be due to poor manufacturing quality,such as materials lacking corrosion resistance,thermal expansion mismatch,or machining defects;it may also stem from external conditions such as vibration caused by cavitation or improper installation.End face failure is often related to selection errors,such as excessively high or low face pressure,impurity intrusion,abnormal temperature leading to medium carbonization,or unreasonable flushing schemes causing dry friction.Compensation components may lose elasticity due to clogging by impurities,insufficient cooling,or high temperatures.Additionally,improper assembly of sealing rings,gaskets,and gland components can become weak points for leakage.

It is worth noting that many leaks are not independent seal issues but manifestations of overall equipment failure or process abnormalities,such as bearing damage,shaft misalignment,sudden pressure changes,or excessive system temperature.This means that leakage prevention and control must be addressed at the systemic level.

Systematic Leak Prevention Strategies

Effective leakage prevention requires cross-process collaboration.First,at the design and selection stage,the medium characteristics and working conditions must be fully matched to reasonably select the pump type,seal form,and material.Second,reliable auxiliary systems,such as cooling,flushing,and filtration devices,should be equipped and ensured to operate continuously and stably.During operation,standardized procedures must be followed,condition monitoring strengthened,and alarms and interlock controls for parameters such as pressure,temperature,and flow should be set to detect abnormalities early.
