As modern industrial production puts forward increasingly higher requirements for fluid delivery efficiency, the operating speed and load intensity of pump equipment keep rising. The fitting stability between the rotor and bearing determines the failure-free operation cycle of the equipment. Carrying out accurate rotor dynamics simulation at the early design stage can effectively avoid problems such as resonance and wear in subsequent operation, and this design logic has universal applicability to pump bodies of all installation forms.

There is no essential difference in the core pump body structure between vertical and horizontal rotor pumps. The internal core components such as rotors, bearings, pump chambers and seals of the two are completely identical, and there is no gap in performance parameters and fluid delivery capacity. The only difference between the two pump types is concentrated on the arrangement form of the drive end: for horizontal rotor pumps, the motor is arranged horizontally and coaxial with the pump shaft; for vertical rotor pumps, the motor stands vertically and connects to the pump head via a right-angle reducer, driving the rotors to operate after power direction conversion. The vertical layout structure can greatly reduce the horizontal floor area of the equipment, which boasts prominent application advantages in installation scenarios with limited space.

Bearings are the core supporting components of the rotor system. They not only reduce mechanical friction during movement and maintain stable rotation of the rotor, but also provide stiffness and damping for the entire system. Pump bearings fall into two categories: radial bearings and axial bearings, with common types including rolling bearings, hydrodynamic radial bearings and thrust pad bearings. Sealing components are also of great importance in the pump system. Similar to bearings, seals will introduce stiffness, damping and additional mass coefficients to the rotor system, thus changing the overall dynamic characteristics. The natural frequency of a system equipped with bearings and seals is significantly different from that of a rigid support system.

Whether vertical or horizontal installation is adopted, the core consideration factors of rotor dynamics analysis are completely consistent. These factors cover static and dynamic radial loads caused by uneven gap distribution between the impeller and the pump chamber, inertial force and hydraulic unbalance force at the impeller position, as well as the effective additional mass effect of the impeller and shaft body. Parameter differences under dry-wet working conditions and wear clearances of different degrees also need to be taken into full account, so as to ensure that simulation results conform to actual operating conditions and accurately predict potential operation risks of the equipment.

On the whole, vertical and horizontal rotor pumps only differ in drive end arrangement and installation space, while the structure and dynamic characteristics of the internal rotor-bearing system are completely the same. There is no major difference in the methods, processes and verification standards of rotor dynamics analysis.
