Mechanical seals are the core components in fluid conveying equipment that block medium leakage,and their operating status directly affects production continuity and on-site operation safety.In industrial production scenarios,seal failure is the most common cause of equipment leakage,whose root causes usually cover multiple links such as design and installation.Only classified sorting can realize accurate troubleshooting and targeted governance.

1.Design and Manufacturing Defects of the Seal Body

When the core rotating and stationary ring assemblies of the mechanical seal have alignment deviations or uneven fitting during assembly,they will directly damage the fitting accuracy of the seal end faces.Unreasonable design of end face specific pressure parameters is a common design inducement:an excessively large load coefficient will aggravate end face friction and wear,while an excessively small one cannot guarantee effective fitting of the seal faces.Meanwhile,substandard flatness of the seal face,mismatch between material selection and working condition requirements,and unbalanced design of seal face width will all interfere with the stable formation of the liquid film on the seal face,greatly shortening the normal service life of the seal.

2.Operation Faults of Seal Auxiliary Systems

Auxiliary facilities such as flushing and cooling configured for complex working conditions are an important support for ensuring the stable operation of mechanical seals.When the working medium conditions are harsh but no flushing device is equipped,the seal faces cannot obtain effective cleaning and cooling,which is highly prone to overheating or abrasive wear.During operation,blockage of the flushing pipeline will directly interrupt the cleaning supply to the seal faces,and scaling of the cooling pipeline after long-term operation will reduce heat exchange efficiency,eventually leading to abnormal temperature rise of the seal end faces and triggering failure problems such as seal deformation and leakage.

3.Impacts of Medium Properties and Operating Conditions

The inherent properties of the conveying medium and fluctuations in operating conditions are important external factors leading to seal failure.Strong corrosive media will continuously erode the material of the seal end faces,damaging the surface accuracy and structural integrity of the seal faces.Solid particles mixed in the medium will enter the seal end faces to cause abrasive wear,quickly scratching the working surfaces of the seal.Pump dry running will result in dry friction on the seal faces;coupled with problems such as crystal precipitation on the seal faces and excessively high medium viscosity,all these will interfere with the stable formation of the liquid film on the seal end faces and disrupt the normal working state of the seal.For example,for rotary lobe pumps conveying high-viscosity materials,if the seal type selection fails to match the medium properties,they are very prone to early failure caused by insufficient end face lubrication.

4.Deviations in Pump Equipment and Installation Links

The processing and installation accuracy of the pump body itself directly determines the basic operating conditions of the mechanical seal.Problems including insufficient pump shaft processing accuracy,axial end play,excessive radial runout or out-of-tolerance installation clearance will subject the seal end faces to alternating loads,making it impossible to maintain stable fitting.Excessive vibration amplitude after equipment startup will aggravate the loosening and abnormal wear of seal components.In addition,poor sealing performance of the gland gasket,uneven end face of the seal chamber,or substandard installation compression of the mechanical seal will directly cause seal leakage faults.
