Among the numerous components of various pump equipment,the shaft sleeve is often overlooked,yet it is an indispensable link for ensuring the long-term stable operation of the equipment.It does not have the prominent appearance of impellers or pump casings,but it silently undertakes multiple key tasks during the operation of the equipment and directly affects the service life and operational reliability of pumps.

Protecting the pump shaft from direct wear is the most core function of the shaft sleeve.When the pump is running,the pump shaft will generate continuous friction with sealing components such as the packing of the packing seal and the stationary ring of the mechanical seal.Without the protection of the shaft sleeve,the pump shaft will wear rapidly and cause equipment failure.The vast majority of industrial pumps,including centrifugal pumps and rotor pumps,adopt this design.Shaft sleeves are usually made of wear-resistant materials such as stainless steel,bronze and high-chromium alloy,and actively bear most of the friction loss.When the wear reaches the limit,only the shaft sleeve needs to be replaced,avoiding the high costs and tedious disassembly and assembly procedures caused by replacing the entire pump shaft.
Isolating the conveyed medium and preventing the pump shaft from chemical corrosion is another important role of the shaft sleeve.When the pump is used to convey corrosive liquids such as acids,alkalis and seawater,pump shafts made of ordinary materials are extremely vulnerable to erosion and damage.By selecting corrosion-resistant materials such as stainless steel and Hastelloy to make the shaft sleeve,the pump shaft can be completely isolated from corrosive media,effectively protecting the transmission components of the pump shaft from chemical damage.
The shaft sleeve can significantly improve the sealing performance of pumps and reduce medium leakage.In the packing seal structure,the precisely machined outer surface of the shaft sleeve can form a uniform and tight sealing surface with the packing,greatly reducing the probability of medium leakage from the gap between the shaft and the packing.At the same time,the smooth surface of the shaft sleeve can also reduce the wear on the packing and extend the service life of the packing.
The shaft sleeve also undertakes important positioning and guiding functions.It is fixed on the pump shaft through interference fit or shaft shoulder,and can perform precise axial positioning on rotating components such as impellers and bearings,preventing these components from axial end play during operation.High-precision shaft sleeves can also ensure the coaxiality between each rotating component and the pump shaft,reduce vibration and additional wear caused by eccentric operation,and improve the operational stability of the equipment.
Some shaft sleeves are designed with special internal flow channels or surface textures,allowing a small amount of conveyed medium to enter the gap between the shaft sleeve and the pump shaft.These media can take away the heat generated by friction during the flow process,playing an auxiliary heat dissipation role.At the same time,they can also form a thin liquid film on the contact surface to achieve a certain degree of self-lubrication effect,further reducing friction resistance and component wear.
Some shaft sleeves designed for special working conditions also have exclusive functions.For example,throttling shaft sleeves commonly used in multi-stage pumps or high-temperature pumps can not only achieve throttling and pressure reduction and stabilize system pressure,but also prevent high-pressure medium leakage through special thread structures,and play an auxiliary supporting role for the main shaft to increase the rigidity of the shaft.Some shaft sleeves with flow channels used in electronic water pumps are designed with wave-shaped or arc-shaped flow channels on the inner wall,which are specially used to guide the flow of coolant and enhance the heat dissipation and lubrication effects.
