In the field of industrial fluid conveying, the performance of core components of equipment affects the stability and economy of the entire system. As an important branch of positive displacement pumps, the core actuating component of the rotary lobe pump is the rotor, and its structural design and material selection are related to the conveying efficiency, medium compatibility and long-term operational reliability of the equipment.

The rotors on the two parallel shafts maintain a safe clearance fit with each other and with the pump cavity, thereby forming independent sealed cavities. The synchronous gears drive the two rotors to perform precise synchronous reverse rotation, which drives the continuous displacement of cavity volume and continuously pushes the medium in the cavity from the inlet end to the outlet end to complete the fluid conveying process.

At present, the mainstream rotors can be divided into two major series: two-lobe and three-lobe according to the number of lobes, and each series is further divided into three types: linear, spiral and butterfly according to structural differences. On the whole, compared with linear rotors, spiral rotors have lower pulsation and significantly improved operational stability of the equipment.

The two-lobe linear rotor adopts a wear-resistant structural design, has extremely strong medium passing capacity, can realize non-clogging conveying, and at the same time has high volumetric efficiency and lower operating energy consumption. The two-lobe spiral rotor adopts a spiral structure, and the volumetric efficiency is further improved with the wide-edge design. The two-lobe butterfly rotor adopts a wide-edge sealing line design, has excellent particle passing capacity, and also takes into account the characteristics of high volumetric efficiency and low energy consumption.

The three-lobe linear rotor adds a wide-edge sealing line on the basis of wear-resistant design, with better fluid flow performance, stable conveying pressure and longer equipment service life. The core advantage of the three-lobe spiral rotor lies in low pulsation, low vibration and low noise, which is the preferred choice for scenarios with high requirements for operational stability. The three-lobe butterfly rotor also adopts a wide-edge sealing line, which causes minimal disturbance to the medium, is especially suitable for conveying high-concentration and high-viscosity media, and has a long service life.

The selection of rotor materials needs to be comprehensively considered in combination with medium characteristics and operating temperature, and the performance of different materials varies greatly. Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SBR) has excellent wear resistance with a heat resistance temperature of up to 60°C, and is suitable for conveying sewage. Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBR) has both wear resistance and oil resistance, with a heat resistance of 80°C, and can be used for media such as sewage, waste oil and coal water slurry. Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) has water, acid and alkali resistance, with a heat resistance temperature increased to 120°C, and is suitable for water, liquid fertilizers and weak acid and alkali solutions. Fluororubber (FPM) is oil-resistant, acid-alkali resistant and corrosion-resistant, with a heat resistance of 150°C, and can handle oil products and various corrosive media. Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) has extremely strong chemical resistance with a heat resistance of 180°C, and is the preferred material for strongly corrosive media and chemical solvents.

In terms of metal materials, 42CrMo4 alloy structural steel is wear-resistant and high-temperature resistant. 304/316L stainless steel and 1.4539 duplex steel both have excellent corrosion and high temperature resistance. All three have good heat resistance effects, and are respectively suitable for conveying kitchen waste, high-temperature high-viscosity media and high-temperature corrosive media.

In summary, the structural type of the rotary lobe pump rotor determines the operational characteristics and medium adaptation range of the equipment, while the material directly affects the weather resistance and service life of the equipment. Only by accurately matching the rotor type and material according to the actual conveying conditions can we maximize equipment performance and reduce long-term operation and maintenance costs.
