In chemical production sites,pump equipment is the power core of the entire production line,undertaking all transportation and circulation tasks of fluid materials.Among them,rotary pumps are widely used in various chemical processes due to their stable delivery performance and wide medium adaptability.However,many operators who are new to the equipment are often at a loss when encountering pump failures,which not only affects production efficiency but may also cause safety hazards due to improper operation.

1.Abnormal Flow(No Discharge or Insufficient Flow)

This is the most basic and frequently encountered fault.The faults are mainly caused by air lock,blockage or component wear:accumulated air in the pump cavity forms air resistance and prevents material suction;the inlet filter screen or pipeline is blocked by debris and scale;the impeller is fouled,stuck with foreign objects or severely worn;the inlet and outlet valves are not fully opened.For treatment,first stop the pump to exhaust air,re-prime the pump and restart,then disassemble and clean the filter screen and unclog the pipeline,inspect and clean the impeller,replace it directly if severely worn,and finally confirm that the valves are fully opened and check whether the pipeline is bent.

2.Excessive Vibration and Abnormal Noise

This is an early warning signal of equipment failure,and long-term operation with faults will damage bearings and pump shafts.The main reasons are installation misalignment and component wear:deviation in coaxiality between the motor and the pump body,loose coupling;loose anchor bolts leading to unstable base;lack of oil,rust or wear of bearings;unbalanced impeller wear and slight rubbing against the pump body.For treatment,stop the machine to calibrate the coaxiality and tighten all coupling bolts,level the base and tighten the anchor bolts,check the condition of bearing lubricating oil,replace the bearing if damaged,and replace the worn and deformed impeller in a timely manner.

3.Excessive Temperature of Bearings and Pump Body

Excessive temperature is extremely easy to cause equipment tripping or even burning,and is a key inspection item.Common causes include poor lubrication,overload and heat dissipation failure:lack of lubricating oil in bearings,deteriorated lubricating oil or excessive oil filling;long-term overload operation of the equipment;excessively tight mechanical seal leading to excessive shaft friction;blocked cooling water pipes resulting in heat dissipation failure.For treatment,replace qualified lubricating oil and maintain the standard oil level,adjust production conditions to avoid long-term overload,fine-tune the tightness of the seal,and unclog the cooling water pipes to ensure smooth heat dissipation.

4.Material Leakage from Pump Body

This is the most common running,emitting,dripping and leaking problem in factories.Slight leakage can be treated emergently,while severe leakage requires immediate shutdown for maintenance.It is mainly caused by sealing system failure and loose connections:aging and damage of mechanical seals,loose or missing packing;misaligned seal installation or damaged rubber rings;loose pump body connecting bolts and aged gaskets.For slight leakage,tighten the seal gland and supplement packing;for severe leakage,stop the pump to disassemble,replace new seals and rubber rings and install them in a standardized manner,and at the same time tighten the pump body bolts and replace aged gaskets.

5.High Motor Current and Overload

This is a high-risk fault that will burn out the motor if not handled in time.It is mostly caused by excessive load and electrical circuit problems:the impeller is stuck by debris or the pump is blocked;the viscosity or impurity content of the conveyed material exceeds the equipment's bearing capacity;poor contact or phase loss of the motor circuit;deviation in equipment coaxiality leading to high operating resistance.Upon discovery,cut off the power and stop the machine immediately,clean up debris in the pump and impeller,adjust material working conditions,contact an electrician to inspect the motor circuit,and recalibrate the equipment coaxiality.

6.Difficult or Impossible Startup

It mainly involves three aspects:electrical circuit,machinery and medium:insufficient power supply voltage or damaged switch;stuck bearings or pump body leading to equipment seizure;material solidification blocking the pump body and pipelines at low temperatures in winter.For treatment,first check the power supply and switch to eliminate electrical circuit problems,manually turn the shaft to test the equipment,disassemble for maintenance and replace parts if stuck,and heat the pump body and pipelines in low-temperature weather to melt the solidified material before restarting.

Key Points of Inspection and Maintenance

Equipment operation and maintenance always follows the principle of seven points maintenance and three points repair,and the vast majority of faults can be detected and prevented in advance through daily inspection.New equipment personnel should focus on the following:check parameters to ensure stable current and pressure,listen to the sound to judge whether the operation is stable,check the temperature to control it within 60℃,check the seal to deal with running,emitting,dripping and leaking in a timely manner,tighten bolts to prevent loosening,and perform lubrication by regularly inspecting and replacing lubricating oil.

For front-line operators,as long as they can accurately judge the equipment status,skillfully troubleshoot common faults and strictly implement daily maintenance,they can independently complete most of the operation and maintenance work.Remember:check bearings for abnormal noise,check seals for leakage,check blockages for poor flow,and check lubrication and heat dissipation for high temperature.Standardized operation and on-time maintenance can not only reduce maintenance costs but also effectively eliminate safety hazards.
