Five Core Components and Their Functions
1. Pump Casing: As the external shell and fluid transfer channel of the equipment, it mainly undertakes two functions: first, providing physical protection for all internal rotating components to prevent foreign objects from entering; second, guiding the fluid into the pump chamber, pressurizing it and then delivering it to the designated location. Pump casings can be made of different materials according to the characteristics of the conveyed medium to adapt to various working conditions such as clean water, corrosive liquids, and sewage containing impurities.
2. Impeller: It is the core power component that enables the equipment to realize fluid transfer. The power output by the motor is transmitted to the impeller through the transmission system. When the impeller rotates at high speed, it exerts force on the fluid, giving the fluid kinetic energy and pressure energy, thus completing the suction and discharge process. Insufficient flow rate and abnormal operating noise are mostly related to impeller blockage, scaling or wear.
3. Pump Shaft and Bearings: The pump shaft is a key component for power transmission, connecting the motor and the impeller, and transmitting the rotational motion of the motor to the impeller. Bearings are installed at the supporting positions of the pump shaft, and their main function is to reduce the frictional resistance during rotation, while bearing radial and axial loads to ensure the smooth operation of the pump shaft. Excessive operating temperature and abnormal vibration of the equipment are usually related to poor lubrication or damage of the bearings.
4. Seal Assembly: Installed at the gap between the pump shaft and the pump casing, it is a key component to prevent medium leakage and external impurities from entering, mainly divided into two types: mechanical seal and packing seal. The main functions of the seal assembly include: preventing the medium in the pump from leaking out to avoid material waste and environmental pollution; preventing air, dust, etc. from entering the pump chamber to avoid equipment cavitation and blockage failures. The seal assembly is the most easily worn and most frequently replaced wearing part in the equipment.
5. Coupling: It is used to connect the motor shaft and the pump shaft to realize power transmission. At the same time, the coupling also has the functions of buffering vibration and compensating for installation errors between the two shafts. When the coupling is loose, misaligned or damaged, it will cause intensified equipment vibration and excessive noise, and in severe cases, it will damage the pump shaft and bearings.
Basic Operating Logic of the Equipment
The operating process of the equipment can be summarized as follows: after the motor is started, it drives the pump shaft and impeller to rotate at high speed through the coupling. When the impeller rotates, it forms a stable negative pressure at the inlet of the pump chamber, sucking the fluid into the pump; after the fluid enters the pump chamber, it gains energy under the continuous action of the impeller blades, and its pressure and flow rate gradually increase, then it is delivered to the downstream pipeline through the spiral outlet channel of the pump casing. As long as the equipment is free from internal blockage, the seal assembly is free from leakage, and the bearings are well lubricated, the rotary pump can maintain long-term stable operation.
Therefore, the structure of the rotary pump is not complicated, and all kinds of failures are closely related to the operating status of the core components. As long as the operators are familiar with the functions of each component and the performance of common failures, and carry out daily inspection and preventive maintenance in accordance with the specifications, they can effectively prevent failures, quickly locate and handle them when failures occur, and ensure the long-term stable operation of the equipment.
