Recently, although there have been no major new policies specifically targeting the polyurethane industry in Southeast Asia, a series of developments in downstream industries have provided clear guidance for the application prospects of polyether polyols, TDI, and MDI. This momentum is primarily concentrated in Vietnam's furniture exports and the localization process of the automotive industry in Thailand and Malaysia.

The furniture industry in Vietnam is performing actively. The recently concluded VIFA EXPO 2026 brought together 650 exhibitors and 2,500 booths, attracting over 3,000 international visitors. Earlier this year, HawaExpo also set the tone for the year, with Vietnam's wood and furniture industry targeting an export goal of $18 billion to $19 billion for 2026, compared to the $18.3 billion achieved in 2025, demonstrating a stable foundation. For the PU market, furniture and mattresses represent the most direct application scenarios for TDI and flexible polyether polyols. The signal from the downstream market is not one of collapsing demand but rather of solid support, which primarily benefits the TDI and flexible foam industry chain.

Although MDI is not as directly applied in pure furniture foam as TDI, it still indirectly benefits from the stable demand in the furniture and construction-related sectors in areas such as wood-based panels, adhesives, and the CASE sector (coatings, adhesives, sealants, elastomers).

Another positive signal comes from the automotive industry. Malaysia is promoting the local assembly of the MG S5 electric vehicle, with a target monthly production of 120 to 180 units. Thailand's Automotive Association has signed a memorandum of cooperation with Great Wall Motor regarding ADAS and electric vehicle lifecycle management, pointing toward the deepening of the industry chain. Automobile production is a major consumer of PU, involving seat foam, interior parts, soundproofing materials, and sealants. In January 2026, Thailand's automobile production reached 118,386 units, a year-on-year increase of 10.53%, with domestic sales surging by 53.77%. Malaysia became the largest automobile market in Southeast Asia in 2025, with 820,752 units sold. These data form a solid foundation for ASEAN's manufacturing sector, indicating that the medium-term demand for MDI-based systems and specialty polyols will receive strong support.

When the production end remains active due to sustained downstream demand, attention naturally turns to production equipment. In the production and conveying of raw materials such as polyether polyols, TDI, and MDI, equipment stability is crucial. Especially for materials with high viscosity or those sensitive to shear forces, rotor pumps, with their non-clogging, low-shear, and stable conveying characteristics, play a core role in unloading, transfer, and metering processes. The strong signals from the Southeast Asian downstream market mean that the operating rates and investment willingness of upstream manufacturers will be safeguarded, creating a stable demand environment for fluid conveying equipment, including rotor pumps.
