In process industries such as chemical,petroleum,and pharmaceutical,the rotary pump,as equipment for conveying fluids,relies on its smooth operation.However,the issue of system overpressure always exists.Once the outlet valve is mistakenly closed or the pipeline is blocked,the medium continuously delivered by the pump has nowhere to go,causing energy to accumulate instantly and leading to a sharp surge in discharge pressure.This uncontrolled pressure can easily cause pump overload,shaft seal burst,rotor damage,and even pipeline rupture.

Therefore,for necessary operating conditions,installing a safety valve on the rotary pump outlet pipeline is an effective measure to protect the system from damage.Its core advantage lies in its purely mechanical operation,requiring no external power or signals.Its working principle is based on precise mechanical balance:a set pressure(opening pressure)is pre-determined.When the pipeline pressure exceeds this value,the medium pressure directly pushes open the valve disc,causing the valve to open rapidly and discharge the excess medium to the low-pressure side(such as the pump inlet or a dedicated recovery line),thereby forcing the system pressure to drop.Once the pressure falls back to a safe reseat pressure,the valve closes automatically.This provides a reliable"pressure relief port"for the entire system.
In fact,every rotary pump device has its own design maximum pressure.Sustained overpressure typically affects the mechanical seal first,causing leakage;this may then lead to bearing damage or pump casing deformation.Installing a correctly chosen safety valve incurs a cost far lower than the potential huge losses from an accident.

2.System Parameter Matching:The safety valve's orifice size must match the pipeline to ensure sufficient relief capacity.Its set pressure must be established between the pump's rated working pressure and the pipeline's maximum allowable working pressure,with a safety margin.This prevents false actuation while ensuring timely opening.
3.Performance Assurance:The valve must possess a qualified rated discharge capacity,ensuring it can release sufficient flow during overpressure to truly curb the pressure rise.Its blowdown(difference between set and reseat pressure)should also be reasonable to avoid frequent cycling or failure to close tightly.
