After the pump unit is installed in place,the quality of the pipeline system installation directly determines whether the entire set of equipment can operate smoothly and efficiently.Piping is not merely a simple connection task;it requires comprehensive consideration of fluid characteristics,equipment parameters,system layout,and safety regulations.Improper installation can easily lead to issues like cavitation,vibration,and leakage,severely affecting pump service life and system safety.

I.Core Requirements for Pipeline Installation
Strict pipe sealing is the primary principle;especially,the inlet pipeline must never leak air,and the outlet pipeline must not leak water.The installation position must be fixed according to the designed axis;arbitrary adjustments are not allowed.Air ingress is a common issue;the horizontal section of the inlet pipeline should maintain a certain slope,gradually rising along the flow direction to facilitate gas discharge.Eccentric reducers should be installed with the flat side up and the sloped side down.Furthermore,a bend should not be directly connected to the pump inlet;a straight pipe section should be added in between.
During pipe connection,forced alignment or heating correction is strictly prohibited.Gaps and misalignment at joints must be eliminated through standard adjustments.All pipelines must receive effective support and fixation and must not be laid directly on the ground.Piping and valves at the inlet and outlet of horizontal pumps particularly require setting support piers or anchor blocks.
II.Detailed Explanation of Typical Piping Facilities
The diameter of the suction pipeline is typically 1 to 2 sizes larger than the pump inlet,and calculations must ensure it meets the Net Positive Suction Head Required(NPSHr).The shut-off valve should be close to the pump inlet.If the pipe diameter is two sizes larger than the pump port,a valve one size larger may be used,but NPSH must be recalculated to verify it still meets requirements.For pumps with small clearances like rotary lobe pumps,a permanent strainer must be installed,usually a Y-type strainer placed downstream of the shut-off valve.
The discharge pipeline must be equipped with a shut-off valve and a check valve.When the inlet-outlet pressure difference is excessive,installing dual shut-off valves or dual check valves is recommended.For rotary pumps,a safety valve should be installed between the outlet and the first valve;if the pump already has one built-in,an additional one may not be necessary.A pressure gauge can also be installed at the outlet of each pump,preferably on a straight section between the pump port and the first valve.
III.Key Points for Special Pipeline Configurations
For media prone to vaporization or conveying light media(e.g.,liquefied petroleum gas,density below 650kg/m³),the suction pipeline should have a slope of 1/10 to 1/100 towards the pump to allow gas to return smoothly to the suction vessel and avoid cavitation.High-temperature pumps(medium temperature>200°C)should have a warm-up circulation line to keep the standby pump in a hot standby state;the bypass flow is generally 3%to 5%of the normal flow.
If the pump needs to operate at low flow rates,a minimum flow protection line should be installed to return part of the fluid to the suction-side vessel.For high-head pumps,where the pressure difference across the outlet valve is large,a DN20 bypass line can be set to balance pressure before opening the main valve.
IV.Piping Layout and Vibration Prevention Measures
The weight of piping and valves and thermal stress must not exceed the allowable external load on the pump ports;pipe supports must be installed at both the inlet and outlet.For pumps with vertical inlet/outlet ports,supports for the pipeline above the port should be installed as close to the connection as possible.The suction line should be short and straight,using fewer bends,selecting large-radius elbows,and avoiding configurations that can trap air.Where unavoidable,a DN15 or DN20 vent valve should be installed at the high point.
In the design,installation,and maintenance of piping projects,only by grasping all technical requirements and adhering to standards can the safe,stable,and long-term efficient operation of pump equipment be truly ensured.
