Deciphering the Heart of Industrial Conveyance: A Comprehensive Insight into Pump and Valve Technology (Part 2)

Deciphering the Heart of Industrial Conveyance: A Comprehensive Insight into Pump and Valve Technology (Part 2)

  • Time of issue:2025-12-23

(Summary description)Operating pumps and valves are not silent components; their vibration and temperature states are indicators of the internal equipment's health. Ignoring or misinterpreting these signals often allows minor issues to escalate into catastrophic shutdowns. Mastering the logic of interpretation and accurately pinpointing the root cause through phenomena is the key to transitioning from passive repair to active maintenance.

When pumps or valves emit abnormal noises, produce excessive vibration, or exhibit overheated bearings, these phenomena signify adverse changes within the equipment. Clear identification of the fault point is required for timely remedy.

The primary tool is vibration analysis, whose frequency characteristics can locate the fault source. If the main vibration frequency matches the motor speed, the focus should be on motor imbalance, coupling misalignment, or motor bearing wear. If the vibration frequency matches the impeller pass frequency, then suspicion should turn to the pump's interior: Has the impeller lost balance due to cavitation or wear? Is there foreign matter in the flow channel? When vibration changes significantly with flow adjustment, it is necessary to investigate pipeline resonance or excessive suction-side resistance.

The second aspect is abnormal bearing temperature. The primary check is the lubrication system: Is the oil quantity sufficient? Has the oil deteriorated or is the wrong type selected? If lubrication is correct, high temperature may indicate more serious internal faults, such as additional load caused by excessive coupling misalignment (radial deviation exceeding 0.05mm, face deviation exceeding 0.03mm), advanced wear of the bearing itself, or even bending of the pump shaft.

Among these abnormalities, cavitation is a phenomenon requiring special vigilance. Its external manifestations are highly characteristic: the pump body emits "crackling" bursting sounds, vibration intensifies (amplitude often exceeding 0.08mm), and flow and head drop sharply. Long-term cavitation leaves unique honeycomb-like erosion pits on the impeller surface. Prevention

core lies in ensuring the pump inlet has sufficient Net Positive Suction Head (NPSH), typically requiring NPSHa ≥ NPSHr + 0.5 m, and is achieved through proper installation, increasing suction pipe diameter, and reducing suction pipeline elbows.

Therefore, in the face of abnormalities, a fault tree from phenomenon directly to root cause is constructed by systematically observing vibration characteristics, monitoring temperature trends, listening to operating noises, and combining them with changes in process parameters. This predictive maintenance mindset can eliminate faults in their infancy, ensuring production continuity and economic efficiency.
