Are You Really Clear About the Inspection Content for Pump Bearings and Bushes?
During the operation of pump equipment, if abnormal vibration or noise occurs, the problem often lies in the bearings or bushes. As key components supporting the rotor, once they wear or deform, they directly affect the overall performance and safety of the pump. Therefore, regular inspection and maintenance are particularly important. Below is a detailed overview of several core aspects that need attention during bearing and bush inspection.
First, check the roundness of the bearing or bush. Its deviation generally should not exceed one-thousandth of the shaft diameter. If it exceeds this range, replacement of the part is recommended to avoid increased vibration and wear due to out-of-roundness.
Second, the surface roughness of the journal must also comply with specifications, usually controlled within a certain range to ensure lubrication effectiveness and fit accuracy.
During assembly, the running-in method is commonly used to check the contact between the journal and the bush. The contact area generally should not fall below a certain proportion, and the contact angle should be maintained within a reasonable range. Through scraping and fitting, contact points can be evenly distributed, avoiding excessive local load. Meanwhile, the surface should not have obvious scratches or damage.
For rolling bearings, ensure that the inner and outer rings are installed flat and without tilting, and that rotation is flexible without sticking. The bearing alloy layer should be firmly bonded to the bush body, with no pores, inclusions, or cracks allowed. The surfaces of rolling elements and raceways should be smooth, free from corrosion, pits, or other defects.

An appropriate preload clearance should be maintained between the bearing cap and the bearing, usually adjusted within a small range to ensure axial positioning without affecting thermal expansion.
Furthermore, the fit between the bearing and the bearing housing, as well as between the shaft and the bearing, must be executed according to standards. Generally, the corresponding fit tolerance is selected based on the shaft diameter size to ensure stable operation after assembly.
For cases where rolling bearings are used for axial thrust, it is also necessary to control the axial clearance of the outer ring, reserving appropriate allowance for movement to accommodate thermal deformation and assembly errors during operation.
