Metering Pump Maintenance: Scientific Upkeep Aids Stable Operation

Metering pumps, as indispensable fluid transfer equipment in filling and metering process industries, have an operational status that directly impacts the continuity and stability of the production system. To ensure the long-term efficient operation of metering pumps, implementing systematic and standardized maintenance is particularly important.

1. Replacement of Metering Pump Lubricating Oil

The quality and level of the lubricating oil in the transmission box relate to the wear degree of internal components and the transmission efficiency. After a new pump is put into operation, the lubricating oil should be replaced immediately after the run-in period to remove metal debris generated during initial operation. During daily operation, oil quality needs regular inspection, and a reasonable oil change cycle should be established based on actual working conditions. It is generally recommended to change the oil every six months or after accumulating 5,000 hours of operation. Particularly under harsh conditions, the oil change interval should be appropriately shortened to prevent abnormal equipment wear caused by oil deterioration.

2. Storage of Metering Pumps

If a metering pump requires long-term shutdown, especially in humid environments, the storage procedures must be strictly followed. The equipment should be placed in a dry, well-ventilated location, stored off the ground, and covered with dust and moisture-proof materials. The transmission box should be filled with high-grade anti-rust oil, and exposed parts such as the liquid end and motor should receive anti-rust treatment. Regular inspections during storage are necessary, with timely reapplication of anti-rust oil to ensure equipment performance remains unaffected when recommissioned.

3. Disassembly and Assembly of the Metering Pump Liquid End

The liquid end is the core working component of the metering pump, and its disassembly and assembly must follow standardized procedures. Before disassembly, always cut off the power and release pressure, and prepare containers for fluid collection. During overall disassembly, adjust the stroke and rotate the coupling to move the plunger to the front dead center before gradually separating the connected components. Assembly follows the reverse sequence, ensuring each step is accurately positioned. Finally, during trial operation, there should be no sticking or abnormal noises.

4. Maintenance and Replacement of Metering Pump Wear Parts

Components such as check valves, plunger seals, diaphragms, and crosshead oil seals are all wear parts requiring regular inspection and timely replacement. When cleaning check valves, use compatible cleaning agents to avoid damaging the valve ball and seat sealing surfaces. When replacing seals, special attention must be paid to protecting the sealing surfaces and avoiding scratches from tools. Diaphragm installation requires ensuring even clamping force, and crosshead oil seals must be installed in the correct direction; reverse assembly is strictly prohibited.

5. Safety Operation

Before performing any maintenance on the metering pump and pipelines, the procedures of "power off and pressure release" must be executed. Operators should wear complete protective equipment, requiring extra caution especially when handling corrosive or toxic media. Any negligence could lead to serious accidents; safety is always the primary principle of maintenance work.
