In industrial fluid transport processes,if gases are entrained in the liquid,it often significantly negatively affects pump operation.After gas enters the pump body,it easily accumulates in the center of the impeller or rotor,forming gas binding,which leads to transport interruption,reduced head,decreased efficiency,and is accompanied by increased vibration and noise.In severe cases,it can cause cavitation,damage internal pump components,and shorten the equipment's service life.

When conveying liquids containing gas,pump selection becomes the primary consideration.Different types of pumps have obvious difference(note:kept in Chinese as per instruction)tolerances for gas.For example,centrifugal pumps are quite sensitive to gas and generally require the gas content in the liquid to be below 5%;whereas rotary pumps(such as screw pumps,gear pumps,etc.),due to their positive displacement working principle and continuous,smooth conveying characteristics,have significantly stronger gas tolerance.They can adapt to media with higher gas content;some models can even handle liquids with up to 20%gas entrainment.In practical selection,it is necessary to make a comprehensive judgment based on the gas content,media characteristics,working pressure,and flow rate,avoiding simply pursuing the universality of a single pump type.
Besides correct pump selection,the optimization of process design is equally crucial.The following aspects can help reduce gas interference with pump operation:
Firstly,control the liquid temperature.High temperatures bring the liquid closer to its vapor pressure,increasing the risk of vaporization.By adding cooling devices to lower the liquid temperature,bubble formation can be effectively suppressed.
Secondly,increase the pressure at the suction end.This can be achieved by raising the liquid level height,using pressurized feed vessels,or adding pressurization devices.Higher inlet pressure helps suppress gas release and maintains flow stability.
Thirdly,reduce easily vaporized components.Before entering the pump,low-boiling-point substances can be removed through degassing or flash separation,fundamentally reducing the gas source.If necessary,degassing devices can be installed upstream of the inlet to actively separate gases.
Fourthly,optimize the design of the suction tank and pipelines.The suction tank should maintain a stable liquid level,and the inlet position must be set reasonably to avoid vortex formation or running dry.Pipelines should preferably adopt a gradually contracting form to reduce turbulence;the inlet section should not be too long,and horizontal pipes should be slightly inclined to prevent air pocket accumulation.Meanwhile,all connections should be tightly sealed to prevent air from being drawn into the pipeline.
Therefore,conveying gas-entrained liquids is a complex project requiring multi-faceted coordination.Only by correctly selecting gas-resistant pump types(such as rotary pumps)and combining them with process improvements and meticulous operation can efficient,stable,and long-lasting conveying operation be achieved.
