The core of the single mechanical seal is its"single sealing surface"design,primarily consisting of a pair of matching rotary and stationary rings.During operation,relying on the synergistic effect of external pressure and temperature,the rotary ring rotates with the equipment shaft while the stationary ring remains fixed.The contact surfaces of the two remain tightly fitted,forming an extremely thin and stable liquid film.This liquid film not only reduces friction loss between the rotary and stationary rings but also blocks the medium from penetrating through the sealing surface.If the liquid film is slightly disrupted due to temporary fluctuations,the pressure generated by the equipment operation quickly pushes the rotary and stationary rings back together,restoring the sealing effect.This structure does not require complex auxiliary systems,and daily inspection and maintenance only need to focus on the wear of the rotary and stationary rings,making operation simple.It is commonly used in conventional working conditions where sealing requirements are not high,such as in ordinary water pumps,rotary pumps,and medium sealing for fans.

The double mechanical seal,on the other hand,features two independent sets of rotary and stationary rings arranged in the sealing chamber,forming a"double sealing surface"protection.Its working principle involves the two sets of sealing surfaces respectively forming liquid films,creating a double barrier.When the liquid film of one set of sealing surfaces is disrupted due to extreme conditions such as high pressure or high temperature,the liquid film of the other set of sealing surfaces can still maintain the sealing state,preventing direct leakage of the medium.Meanwhile,the interaction force between the two sets of sealing surfaces quickly repairs the damaged liquid film,ensuring the continuous stability of the sealing system.However,this dual structure requires matching auxiliary lubrication and cooling systems to maintain the working environment of the two sets of sealing surfaces.The overall structure is more complex,and maintenance requires simultaneous inspection of the status of both sets of sealing components.Nevertheless,precisely because of this,it can handle special working conditions that single mechanical seals struggle to withstand,such as the sealing needs of high-pressure reaction kettles,high-temperature steam pipelines,and high-vacuum equipment.
